Hot Dog Mummies

From time to time I get emails about food. People are so clever in the way they think about food and make things look almost human - in scary ways. Today I got one of those emails. Included in the gruesome photos of onions sliding down a cheese grater to their deaths and villianous looking eggs was a hilarious photo of hot dog mummies.

These are just pigs in a blanket revisited and I knew we could do this. I didn't have refrigerated biscuit dough on hand, so I made my own from scratch - much better anyway. We used whole cloves for the eyes.

I rolled the dough quite thin and cut it into strips. Each of the kids made their own mummy.
I made one to show them how. They did such a good job, you can't tell which is mine and which are theirs! (I'm vegetarian, the big one is really a soy Chorizo.)

Here they are cooked. The baking really brings out the character and personality in each mummy, don't you think?

Lunch time! I warned the kids they were hot, but they were so excited to eat these beasties they couldn't wait. The eyes had to go. Whole cloves were not meant to be eaten like that. These kids are super mummy makers!
