We were so happy to have our site up and running this morning, and then we hit a snag that was beyond our control. The truck was late. I called the company and discovered they were running two hours behind schedule. An email was sent to all participants to let them know. Still, we stayed at the school in case people did not get the message. At the scheduled pick-up time, quite a few folks came for their baskets. Everyone was understanding and gracious about the problem. Being a big game day for BSU, the time change was very inconvenient for many people.
When the truck finally did arrive, several volunteer helpers had returned and we had all the produce out and ready to sort in short order. Everyone kept busy and worked efficiently. When people came back for their baskets, we had them in and out in less than 20 minutes. Many took cardboard with them to recycle. They were happy and so great about everything.
Here are the contents of today's basket. New to us are collard greens and persimmons, and we don't have much experience with brussels sprouts. We will have some eating adventures this week! Everything here was in the basket except for the extra package of tomatoes which we got for helping.
We are getting such a nice store of extra apples, pears and such, so Terry made juice this morning. We have a Power Juicer; you put in the fruit and the machine does the rest. He used an orange, apples, pear, wedge of pineapple, and carrots. Delicious and nutritious - no additives or preservatives.

my dd counts down the weeks until Brussels come into season... Slice thinly and saute in a knob of butter, lemon juice and zest. Once they start to soften add a bit of water and cover so they finish cooking in the steam.
She'll eat these until they go out of season and mope for a bit too.
I love brussels sprouts coated with olive oil and roasted until lightly golden brown in the oven!! Yummy!! Love seeing your basket of veggies!! Wish we had something like that here!! I'm sad that our farmer's market has closed for the winter months!
I have a recipe for persimmon muffins...let me know if you're interested. :)
