Special Olympics Idaho Scarf
In 2009, the Special Olympics World Winter Games were held here in Idaho. People from all over the world donated over 60,000 blue and white handmade scarves. Special Olympics Idaho asked for scarves again this year. Since it is not an international event this year, they asked for only 650 scarves to be received by March 9. This year they were to be cherry red and heather gray. I didn't find out about this project until last Monday, so I had about a week to get the yarn and get one made. This was such a fun project for me - I'm not really an advanced knitter so I had to find a pattern that incorporated two colors that was fairly simple. The pattern was pretty and went together quickly. Here's my finished scarf, warts and all! I took the scarf to the Special Olympics office just before closing time last night about 4:30 and dropped it off in a pile of other scarves that had been left just inside the door. No one was around to receive the scarves - probably busy counting and sorting packages somewhere else in the building. I've been watching the blog and learned that this year's scarves came from all over the United States. It was fun to be part of this project for the special olympians.
